Online Training/CEUs

Your support staff may occasionally need Continuing Education Units to renew certification. In some states, the support staff may obtain these online, with a certification of completion provided by the practice. This is a sample form that can be used in these situations (CLICK HERE). BE SURE to have staff “screen shot” completion and a passing grade for each presentation.

If CEUs are not indicated, staff must log their time, (start time, end time and total time). If there is no quiz to document completion, a written summary of the presentation may suffice. Staff may need to create a login and password for each training site.

Medscape offers training by specialty–CLICK HERE. The training can be filtered by topic as well.

HHS offers training related to “HIPAA for Professionals” here–CLICK HERE.  The training includes a very good summary of the HIPAA Privacy Rule–CLICK HERE.

Your staff may also need mandatory training on Waste, Fraud and Abuse, (required for participation with some insurance companies). CMS offers a program, with step-by-step instructions as follows:

  1. Navigate to http://www.cms.gov/Outreach-and-Education/Medicare-Learning-Network-MLN/MLNProducts/ProviderCompliance.html
  2. Scroll to the “Fraud and Abuse-related Resources” section
  3. Click on “FAQs Medicare Parts C and D Compliance and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Training”
  4. Follow the instructions within the CMS document to create a log-in with the Medicare Learning Network. NOTE: In the Organization field, leave blank “Search” and select the only option.
  5. After logging in, search for courses and select “Combating Medicare Parts C and D Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (January 2018) (Contact hours: 30 min.)
  6. Use the menu in the upper left to navigate through the sections of the course.
  7. When finished, view and save your certificate.
